Like him or loathe him, Jackson was a cultural icon of our times. The next few days will probably determine if the world sees him on the same stage as a JFK or Elvis or Dr King. The adverse publicity of the past few years probably tarnished his standing.

His heyday, the finest way to remember him! His music was the sound of my childhood, it's the end of an era.

hi Ninja - you're right - it's interesting to see the reactions on the web and in blogs - i've definitely seen some snarky comments since last night (well, it was at night here in Zurich when this all went down) - there's no denying, however, that MJ made an incalculable impact on the music scene - and this is felt all over the wolrd

Vicola:) - it's so weird to think he's gone - because i think his music will never die - and because his music was such a huge part of the soundtrack to my growing up as well

Hi paikea!!!!!

I remember hearing the news announcement when Elvis died (yeah, I'm OLD)

Shocking when you hear news like this, but his music will never die. Not to be funny, but there will probably be "MJ sightings" like it was with EP. There will people who just refuse to accept it.

Hey Carlisa:) - oh totally - MJ was at least as big as Elvis - there are definitely going to be "sightings":) - he will always be a global superstar

"We live on a hunk of rock and metal that circles a humdrum star that is one of 400 billion other stars that make up the Milky Way Galaxy which is one of billions of other galaxies which make up a universe which may be one of a very large number, perhaps an infinite number, of other universes. That is a perspective on human life and our culture that is well worth pondering." -- Carl Sagan
